Soil Blocking Begins

Let the soil blocking begin! Though this is not a new process by any means, it is the first time here at Flowering Rock Farm.

Soil blocking, a method of starting seedlings without traditional pots or trays, offers several benefits:

1. 𝐑𝐞𝐝𝐮𝐜𝐞𝐝 𝐓𝐫𝐚𝐧𝐬𝐩𝐥𝐚𝐧𝐭 𝐒𝐡𝐨𝐜𝐤: Seedlings grown in soil blocks experience less transplant shock when moved to their final planting locations.

2. 𝐈𝐦𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐯𝐞𝐝 𝐑𝐨𝐨𝐭 𝐃𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐥𝐨𝐩𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭: Soil blocks promote air pruning, preventing root circling and encouraging healthier root systems.

3. 𝐄𝐧𝐡𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐞𝐝 𝐀𝐞𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧: The structure of soil blocks allows for better aeration, preventing soil compaction and providing improved oxygenation to plant roots.

4. 𝐒𝐩𝐚𝐜𝐞 𝐄𝐟𝐟𝐢𝐜𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐲: Soil blocks take up less space compared to traditional pots or trays, allowing for more efficient use of growing space.

5. 𝐒𝐮𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐢𝐧𝐚𝐛𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐲: Soil blocking reduces the need for plastic containers, contributing to a more sustainable and environmentally friendly gardening approach.

6. 𝐂𝐨𝐬𝐭-𝐄𝐟𝐟𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐞: Once you invest in a soil block maker, there’s minimal ongoing cost as opposed to purchasing pots or trays.

7. 𝐄𝐚𝐬𝐲 𝐓𝐫𝐚𝐧𝐬𝐩𝐥𝐚𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠: When it comes time to transplant, soil blocks can be planted directly into the ground, saving time and effort.
